Resident Recruitment Award

Background:
The Society for Pediatric Pathology established the Resident Recruitment Award to encourage residents to consider a career in pediatric pathology.

Goals:
To identify interested candidates and involve them in the SPP through the Fall Meeting of the Society and its publications.

Nature of the Award (one award will be given in 2011):

  • travel, registration, and lodging expenses to attend the 2011 Fall SPP Meeting in Milwaukee, WI (September 29-October 2, 2011).
  • poster presentation of award-winning submission
  • lunch with "Legends in Pediatric Pathology" (lunch at the Fall SPP Meeting with well-known pediatric pathologists)

Eligibility:
An applicant must be a resident in an ACGME-approved Anatomic or Clinical Pathology program as of August 1, 2011. Prior recipients of this award are not eligible.

Application:
All applications must consist of a single-page (extra pages will be discarded) of text and/or illustration related to the theme "What's so special about pediatric pathology?" Apart from length, the format of the submission is left to the discretion of the author. Contents may range from traditional case reports to poetry, photography, or other creative endeavors. The document should not include information that might identify the applicant (e.g., name, institution). Entries will be coded and judged blindly.

A complete application should include:

  1. The single-page entry (4 copies).
  2. A letter of support from the applicant's Residency Director to confirm the applicant will be a resident in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology in the 2011-2012 academic year and that he/she would be allowed to attend the meeting, if selected.
  3. A cover letter that indicates the resident's name, address, email address, phone number, residency program, and year of residency. Also please indicate whether or not your contact information can be distributed to Pediatric Pathology fellowship programs.

Selection Process:
Complete applications must be received no later than July 1st, 2011. They will be judged by the members of the Distinctions and Awards Committee for their creativity, composition, content and how well they reflect unique or special aspects of Pediatric Pathology. Awardees will be notified by August 1st, 2011.
